For us natives, we know Philly is great, but its also awesome to have a large publication recognize the greatness of our city as well. Earlier on in the year, Philadelphia was ranked among the top 20 foodie cities, and once again, it is being highlighted amongst other cities in the nation. Recently, National Geographic named Philadelphia as the best city to visit in 2020!
The article featured 25 destinations across the world and Philadelphia ranked No. 1 on the “Best Trips” list in the “Cities” category which also included places like Parma, Italy, Puebla, Mexico, and Fort Kochi, India. The list was divided into four categories: culture, city, nature, and adventure. Researchers of National Geographic weighed several factors in the ranking, which included: culture engagement, community benefit, geographic and thematic diversity, affordability, and value.
So, of course we know all the things that make the City of Brotherly Love great, but what did National Geographic think? The publication writes, “Think of Detroit, Cleveland, and Cincinnati: resurgent, postindustrial American cities that are channeling creative forces to reinvent themselves for a new generation. Philly is like this but better. It’s a scrappy underdog with a heart of gold and — who can resist the “Rocky” reference? — the eye of the tiger.”
Booming with creative industries like art and music, a robust food scene, and its balance between historic and modern makes Philadelphia one of a kind and the best city to visit next year.
