Get hype, Broadway fans – Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is finally coming to Philadelphia at the end of this month! Since its debut in 2015, Hamilton has received critical acclaim and enthusiastic positive reception from audiences and critics everywhere. Along with popularity among the general public, the show has also been nominated for 16 Tony nominations, winning a whopping total of 11, as well as receiving the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The show is based on the 2004 biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, written by historian Ron Chernow. Hamilton is split up into two acts, with the first one detailing his arrival to America, his early work with George Washington and his involvement in the Revolutionary War, to name some of the highlights. The second act centers on the early workings of our nation, Hamilton’s role as secretary of the treasury, and his eventual death.
The City of Philadelphia holds some great historical significance in Hamilton. The ‘Cabinet Battles’ and the Constitutional Convention of 1787 both take place in Philadelphia, known as the birthplace of our nation.
In conjunction with the Kimmel Center and the Broadway Philadelphia series, Hamilton: The Musical will run from August 27th to November 17th at the Forrest Theatre.
