Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, one of Philadelphia’s favorite amusement attraction parks, and the home of the Peanuts characters. Dorney Park is now also a certified autism center. The park is located in Allentown, PA.
The park received the certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. The employees had to complete a sensory disorder training course to learn protocols and safety concerns. They had to learn to communicate and engage with guests with sensory disabilities and their families.
Dorney Park offers a sensory and quiet room, boarding pass program, complimentary sensory parks, sensory-friendly entertainment, quiet outdoor spaces, a Family Care Center, and gluten-free food options.
This isn’t the first time, however, that DP&WWK has catered to guests with sensory disabilities. During Autism Awareness Week, which is usually held in July, the park hosts a program for guests with autism and sensory disorders. Portions of the ticket sales are donated to the Autism Society of America.
You can support the Dorney Park autism centre and all of the good they are doing in the summer, but can still visit for its Halloween attractions.
Thank you Dorney Park!
