Phillies favorite former head coach, Charlie Manuel, is back with the team!
It was announced August 13th that Manuel will replace John Malle as hitting coach. Malle was relieved of his duties.
Manuel is currently the senior advisor to the general manager and will resume the position of hitting coach for the remainder of the season.
From 1988-89 and again in 1994-99, He served as the Cleveland Indian’s hitting coach. During his second run, the Indians led the American League in runs three times, in home runs twice, and set a record by hitting 220 home runs in 1997.
As manager, Manuel led the Phillies to be 2008 World Series Champions and five postseason appearances from 2007-11. In nine seasons, he went 780-636, accumulating more victories than any manager in team history.
Fans are excited for his return as he is loved by many.
The Phillies are currently fourth in the National League.
