Two days before he is sworn in to be president, Joe Biden came to Philadelphia to volunteer. He was at Philabundance in South Philadelphia on January 18th, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, to participate in the MLK Day of Service.
His wife, Dr. Jill, and some more of his family members, were also there to help. They joined an assembly line to fill about 150 boxes of fresh fruit and non-perishables.
Philabundance produces more than 24 million pounds of food each year, especially to smaller community food banks. He also took selfies with masked supporters and danced along to the disco music playing.
This year is especially important to help those in need because many people are out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Philadelphia was one of the major cities in helping to elect Biden to office, and is close to his home state, Delaware, so it is great to see Biden helping out the Philadelphia community.
Vice President Elect Kamala Harris and her husband also helped with a food bank in Washington.
President-Elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on Wednesday, January 20th.
