With the 4th of July coming up in a little over two weeks, people are already planning their festivities. Barbecues, pool parties, and fireworks are the norm, however, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, large-scale public celebrations have taken a large hit. Though a majority of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties are in the green phase, 21 (including Philadelphia county) are still in yellow, meaning gatherings of 25+ are prohibited. Here’s how Philly plans on celebrating one of the country’s most anticipated holidays – from home!
For this 4th of July, Philly plans on hosting the seven-day Wawa Welcome to America celebration online. The yearly tradition is 100% virtual and completely free for everyone to view and enjoy. Though it is virtual, the weeklong celebration will feature has some spectacular events, including POPS on Independence, U.S. Army Esports Tournaments, Wawa Hoagie Day, virtual museum tours, family friendly activities and story time readings, and of course, the Wawa Welcome to America Concert. This year, the concert will be featuring award-winning singer and actress Cynthia Erivo alongside Jason Derulo and the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia!
Though the festival is online this year, there will be plenty of fun to participate in from your home. So sit back, enjoy a cold one with a burger and watch some of the festival!
