Wawa is teaming up with the ABC show “The Goldberg,” to celebrate its anniversary. They want to celebrate with an 80’s theme and are using the motto “lookback, give back, throwback.”
April 16, 2021, marks 57 years since the first Wawa location opened. It is also the 7th anniversary of the Wawa Foundation, which supports nonprofits that focus on causes related to hunger, health, and everyday heroes. They have accumulated $100 million since the foundation was founded.
Throughout Wawa Week, which starts April 16th, customers have the chance to give back to local children’s hospitals. All of the activities will be themed about the 1980s and features a special partnership with the sitcom. The celebrations will take place at all Wawa locations, but some events will take place in the Jenkintown store where “The Goldbergs” takes place.
Also, from the 14th through the 19th, customers will have the chance to enter to win “The Goldbergs Viewing kit” which includes wawa gift cards, t-shirts, swag, and more. Enter on any of their social media sites.
At that store, shown many times in the sitcom, a retro 80s styled sign will be displayed in and out of the store and a “Home of the JTP” sign will be unveiled. There will also be a Smash Ball competition between the local police and fire departments.
The newest episode, set to air on the 21st, will be streaming at the Jenkintown location as part of the viewing party sweepstakes. Throughout all locations there will be audio clips from the show and 80s music playing. As well as clips of the show on the gas pumps to any location that has them.
Of course, Wawa wouldn’t be what it was without the food. There will be Beverly Goldberg’s famous “Garlic Chicken Cheesy Parm” hoagie.
A portion of the hoagie bought from the 16th to the 23rd as well as cups of coffee on the 16th will benefit Children’s Miracle Network.
Since “The Goldbergs” aired in 2013, the show has featured Wawa numerous times, so the chain is deciding to give back to them.
“The Goldbergs” airs Wednesday at 8/7c on ABC.
