When the Gritty was announced as the official Flyers mascot in September of last year, he took the world by storm with his Cheeto-colored body, giant smile, and goggly eyes. His name embodies the universally-known attitude of Philadelphia sports fans and yet, he’s quickly became one of the most beloved and popular mascots in American sports, with famous fans like Jimmy Fallon!
The Flyers recently announced that Gritty will be getting his very own 5K, which is exciting Flyers fans and Philly sports lovers in the area. The family-friendly themed run will be held on October 13th, beginning at 8:30 am. Participants are welcome (and encouraged) to dress in orange and fuzzy gear to get in full Gritty spirit. The run will start at the Wells Fargo Center and go through the Navy Yard and finish right outside the Xfinity Live Center. Along the way, runners can enjoy Gritty-themed rest and water stops and even a course with the full mascot treatment!
Beware, he’s also a little competitive too.
All the money raised from the 5K will benefit the various charities of the Philadelphia Flyers, so you can run and contribute to a good cause at the same time. After the run, participants can relax and have fun at the Flyers Fan Fest, featuring games, vendors and more. Did I mention it’s free? Don’t forget to register for the Gritty 5K before it’s too late!
