Queer Eye Comes To Philly
Few reality television shows come along that equally warm your heart and give you greater hope for humanity like Netflix’s Queer Eye does. A reboot of the popular early 2000s show, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Queer Eye focuses on giving worthy candidates lifestyle makeovers to boost their confidence and give them a better outlook on life. With the help of Karamo (culture expert), Antoni (food and wine expert), Tan (fashion expert), Bobby (interior design expert), and Jonathan (grooming expert), each of the candidates or “heroes” get a fun experience learning lifestyle lessons all while getting a makeover at the same time.
In 2019, Netflix renewed Queer Eye for a fourth and fifth season, with season four releasing on July 19. Since the release of the latest season, the show’s loyal fanbase has been curiously wondering where the Fab Five will travel to next. They have been in Atlanta, GA and Kansas City, MO. When hints were dropping in April about the Fab Fives latest whereabouts, Philly natives were enthusiastic to see and hear that Queer Eye would be filmed in the City of Brotherly Love for season five.
Fab Five member Bobby posted pictures on Instagram throughout various places in the city.
Tan posted an Instagram in a local favorite store, and just about every Philly native instantly recognized where he was – none other than Wawa! I know, I’m freaking out too.
Even Karamo has posted some Instagram pictures highlighting the places he’s going in Philly!
As part of their promotion of season four as well as to discuss the filming of season 5, a few members of the Fab Five (Tan, Antoni, and Bobby) sat down with Rudy Chinchilla of NBC 10 at the Comcast Technology Center to offer their take on Philly.
Antoni commented on his view of Philly, stating,
I think it’s a perfect symbol of what America is. You have sort of like the heritage component of these old buildings that have been here since the beginning, even right in downtown. And then you have this incredible building that we’re in, the Comcast building, which is just like a marvel of modern architecture and design, and it’s like a perfect marriage of those two. That’s America, that’s what America is.
I love that!
And for a little extra fun, fashion expert Tan offered his opinion on how to style a fabulous Eagles Jersey, saying,
“I would put it with this wash of jean [light blue], I would peg my jean, I would possibly belt it, and put on a lovely pair of sneakers and I’d be good to go.”
