Joe Flacco Signs One-Year Deal with Philadelphia Eagles

Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has agreed to a one year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles per the announcement of his agency. The single year contract includes $3.5 million in guaranteed money with the possibility of incentive bonuses bringing the total figure to $4 million.
In the absence of an injury, this signing really won’t have any significant bearing on the Birds’ on-field performance for the coming season. The 36 year old Flacco is expected to merely serve as the backup quarterback to Jalen Hurts, who flashed brilliance down the stretch for the Eagles last season. The Eagles will expect their newest signing to be a veteran presence with enough ample experience to guide the development of Hurts. Flacco does bring to the table 175 NFL starts and he even picked up a Superbowl MVP while leading the Baltimore Ravens to a championship following the 2012 season.
A veteran presence on the sideline can be a positive…but Birds’ fans are certainly hoping the sideline is where Joe Flacco remains for the season. He didn’t tally a single victory in four starts last season. While his team, the New York Jets, weren’t providing much support it’s fairly uncontroversial to label Flacco as washed at this juncture of his career.
It remains to be seen what direction the front office will go in the draft. They have a total of 11 picks, the most enticing being the #6 overall selection in the draft.
