Eagles Soar in Victory Against Jacksonville
The Eagles had a rough start in the first preseason game against the Titans. In this week’s game, however, the team soared and pulled out a win with a double digit lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars, with the final score being 24-10. Let’s take a look into some of the key performances from last week’s game as well as some of the best highlights.
- In the first preseason game against the Titans, the Eagles running game was something to be concerned about, with a total of a disappointing 37 yards put up. That didn’t stop the running game from delivering this week, with the team rushing a total of 139 on 33 carries. Running back Miles Sanders rushed 31 yards in the first half while Jordan Howard rushed 10.
- The Eagles preseason backup QB situation has been interesting to say the least. In week one, backup QB Nate Sudfeld left the game with a wrist injury. This week, the Eagles lost additional backup QB Cody Kessler with a concussion, thrusting rookie QB Clayton Thorson into more preseason action. Thorson improved a lot since the first preseason game against the Titans, where he only competed 2 passes and had one interception. In Thursday’s game, with the increased play time, Thorson had a much better performance, completing 16 passes for 175 yards with one TD.
- Due to the multiple injures that have hit the Eagles quarterback depth, they signed QB Josh McCown out of retirement. McCown is is a 40 year-old NFL veteran who is known to be a competent backup in his NFL career, playing for 10 other NFL teams. On having McCown on the team, coach Doug Pederson said, “Listen, he’s a veteran quarterback, he’s been around. He’s seen a lot. He’s a guy that just can add a lot of knowledge and depth in that room…Obviously, he played this position and started a ton of games in this league, excited to get him going and get him up to speed.”
- The defensive lineman performed well this week too, with DE Daeshon Hall having three QB hits, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Rookie Sharif Miller had four tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and two QB hits.
The Eagles play the Baltimore Ravens this Thursday, August 22nd at 7:30pm at Lincoln Financial Field.
