Lays Releasing Philly Cheesesteak Chips Inspired by Geno’s Steaks
Alicia Geigel Posted On July 18, 2020

lays cheesesteak chips

Certain cities across the country are known for different foods: Chicago has deep dish pizzas, New Orleans has gumbo, and of course, our beloved Philly has cheesesteaks. Granted, the Philly food scene is diverse, and features far more than just a cheesesteak, but whenever the city is mentioned, cheesesteak is always the first food to come to mind.

Recently, Lays announced that the company will be releasing 5 different restaurant-inspired flavors for a limited time this month – and none other than Geno’s Steaks will be one of them! Along with Geno’s, the other chip flavors will include: New York Style Pizza (inspired by Grimaldi’s NY), Nashville Hot Chicken (inspired by Party Fowl, Nashville), Carnitas Street Taco (inspired by El Torito, CA), and Chille Relleno (inspired by Cocina Azul, NM).

Geno’s shared their excitement on Twitter, saying, “We’re excited to share that Lays is releasing a new chip flavor inspired by our cheesesteaks.”

Have you always wanted to try our cheesesteaks, but haven’t been able to make a trip to Philly? We’re excited to share that @lays is releasing a new chip flavor inspired by our cheesesteaks. All 5 restaurant-inspired flavors will be on shelves later this month for a limited time. pic.twitter.com/62dTH0JET7

— Geno's Steaks (@GenosSteaks) July 10, 2020

Though the exact flavor profile of the chips hasn’t been detailed yet, we can probably expect a beefy, cheesy, and all around delicious flavor for the cheesesteak chip. Will you be making the trip to the store to try these?

No Fans Allowed at Phillies, Eagles Games for 6 Months

No Fans Allowed at Phillies, Eagles Games for 6 Months

As we are entering into summer, many of us typically look forward to basking in the sunshine, enjoying time with friends, and attending different sports events. Since the pandemic started spreading in March, many states have been in lockdown, with local governments enforcing restrictions regarding work, shopping, visiting hospitals and health care facilities, and social gatherings. While the virus has showed signs of slowing down, several states have seen a spike in cases due to a number of people ignoring CDC guidelines.

Governor Wolf is taking precautionary measures to ensure that Pennsylvania doesn’t see a significant increase in the number of cases like Texas or Florida. Despite the lessening of restrictions and some areas of the city reopening recently, city officials have recently announced that no fans will be allowed to attend both Phillies and Eagles for at least six months, until February 2021 or unless there are changes to local guidelines.

Fan attendance is not having an impact on when professional sports will resume, as the Eagles are scheduled for their first game on Sept. 20th against the Rams at home. The Phillies are scheduled to open the 2020 season at Citizens Bank Park on July 24th against the Miami Marlins. For fans who love to see the games in person, this is a bummer but for most people anticipating sports to be back, it is exciting.

Only time will tell when large crowds will be able to gather and root for our favorite teams again, but until then, go Phils and go Birds!

The fact that Queer Eye decided to feature Gritty in a short bonus episode just makes the Philly centered season even more special.

Queer Eye’s Fab Five Talk to Jimmy Fallon About Season 5 in Philly
Alicia Geigel Posted On June 23, 2020

Queer Eye Cast On Jimmy Fallon

Since its release back in 2018, Netflix’s Queer Eye has taken the country and quite frankly, the world by storm. The Fab Five have been across the country to multiple locations, ranging from Kansas City, Missouri to Atlanta, Georgia, and, in its latest season, our very own Philadelphia. The fifth season of the show was released on June 5th, and has since gotten positive reception for fans and viewers everywhere. Given the success of the show and its newest season, the Fab Five recently talked with late-night show host Jimmy Fallon about the season and spending time in the City of Brotherly Love.

For people from Philly and around the area, it is not unusual to encounter people that are more on the reserved side. For the Fab Five, they noted that Philly folks are tough and unique in their personalities, to put it nicely! Karamo Brown, the show’s culture/self care expert, commented on this saying that Philadelphians are “tough nuts to crack”, going on to say, “Philly’s the only place I ever had someone be like, ‘Nah, I’m good.” Brown has only love for the city that he is very familiar with, as he spent time in the Philly filming Real World: Philadelphia back in 2004.

The other members of the Fab Five, like fashion expert Tan, food expert Antoni, and interior decorator Bobby, agreed that the heroes were a little more closed off than what they were used to in the other seasons, but because of that, the results of the makeover were even more powerful and rewarding. Grooming expert Jonathan disagreed and didn’t see a difference between people from Philly and New York, where he has worked for over 13 years.

The latest season of Queer Eye is the biggest one yet, with over 10 episodes, meaning more transformations to cry over and be invested in. What better than our very own Philly to be highlighted in one of the most popular Netflix series!

Rob McElhenney of ‘It’s Always Sunny’ Says The Gang Will Tackle Coronavirus

Rob McElhenney of 'It's Always Sunny' Says The Gang Will Tackle the Coronavirus

Everyone loves the popular comedy show Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, especially people in and around the Philly area. Though the series premiered all the way back in 2005, it is still going strong and even premiered its 14th season back in September of 2019. The Coronavirus has shaken and froze much of the entertainment world, which means that any kind of production is on hold. However, FX has recently renewed the series for a 15th season, making Its Always Sunny the longest-running live-action comedy series in history.

Writing for the newest season of the show has already started, and actor and producer Rob McElhenney recently dropped a few hints about details of the upcoming season, including the gang tackling the Coronavirus pandemic. On incorporating the pandemic into the show, McElhenney said, “When we come back, don’t worry, we will address all this in the way only Sunny can.” He also noted that there is already an episode that touches on what we’re all going through right now called ’The Gang Gets Quarantined, in season 9, episode 7 of the show. In the episode, a severe flu outbreak takes over the city and the gang quarantines themselves in Paddy’s but don’t want to follow the strict rules they’ve set for themselves. Sound kind of familiar?

Rob McElhenney and wife Kaitlin Olson have been doing what they can to help during the pandemic. Back in March, the couple organized a GoFundMe page to raise money for Philabundance.

Kevin Hart and Jimmy Kimmel Surprise Nurse from Philly
Alicia Geigel Posted On May 30, 2020

Jimmy Kimmel and Kevin Hart with Nurse

The Coronavirus pandemic has been particularly hard on healthcare workers. Doctors, nurses, and frontline workers have been going above and beyond to take care of those who have fallen ill with the virus, even sacrificing their own safety in the process. Throughout the world, we have seen a huge outpouring of love and appreciation for these workers, and this shows no sign of slowing down. Last week, late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel surprised a Nurse from Philly, along with native Kevin Hart.

Natasha Lewis has been labeled Jimmy Kimmel’s latest #HealthCareHero, and she truly deserves it. The mother of four works at a health center in Germantown which cares for the undeserved, those who may not have health insurance or limited access to healthcare. Natasha loves her job, and said to Kimmel, “I love my work. I’ve been a registered nurse for over 10 years. I love educating. I love taking care of my patients when they are well and when they are sick.”

On top of the service she does while working, Natasha also prints t-shirts that honor healthcare workers and recognize them as superheroes. During her time on the show, she wore one of her shirts that had the Superman logo on it, saying “Nurse Natasha.” Lastly, as a way to give back, Natasha holds an annual coat drive in Philly during the winter months. She is most deserving of love, appreciation, and recognition!

After talking with Jimmy Kimmel for a few minutes, Kevin Hart tuned in to show Natasha just how much he appreciates all that she has done and what she is continuing to do for the community. Hart said, “I think for the city of Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love to have individuals like yourself and the team like the one that you have that are doing positive things like that you know, that’s as dope as dope can be to me. So this is a big moment for me too.”

Natasha was gifted $10,000 from Beyond Meat, and the company is also giving meals to Natasha’s nursing unit. Lastly, Beyond Meat is donating one million burgers to Feeding America, an organization that Kevin Hart supports.

SEPTA Resuming Normal Schedules But With Passenger Limits
Alicia Geigel Posted On May 22, 2020

SEPTA Resuming Normal Schedules for Bus, Trolley, and Subway Lines

The Coronavirus pandemic made the entire world screech to a halt, and Pennsylvania has been no different. Non-essential businesses, sit-down restaurants, and schools have been shut down since March, while SEPTA transit has been under extreme restrictions as a means to contain the worst of the virus. As the curve has gradually started to flatten, along with pressure from small businesses and the general public to reopen, SEPTA resumed normal schedules for bus, trolley, and subway lines this week.

On Monday, SEPTA announced that buses, trolleys, and subways would be operating on regular schedules, but people can expect things to look different than what they remember before the virus hit. For 40-foot buses, there will be a limit of 20 passengers, 30 passengers per articulated buses, 25 passengers per trolley, and 30 passengers for NHSL train. SEPTA is also strongly recommending customers to wear a face mask or cover their faces as they resume riding transit. In addition, SEPTA has installed shields as a means to protect drivers, and marked off seats to enforce social distancing.

While certain SEPTA transit is resuming normal schedules, regional rail lines will continue to run on the lifeline schedule for at least an additional three weeks.

As the state starts to reopen, remember to be safe and practice safe social distancing! For more information on new changes, be sure to visit the official Twitter Page or the SEPTA website.

Eagles Offer Lincoln Financial Field for Free Wedding Ceremonies for Frontline Workers

Eagles Offer Lincoln Financial Field for Free Wedding Ceremonies for Frontline Workers copy

Due to the Coronavirus, people have halted any engagement in social gatherings, whether it be a family birthday party or friendly barbecue. On a larger scale, Covid-19 has affected people’s wedding ceremonies and celebrations across the country. For those who have gone through with their ceremonies, most of the guests are limited and the ones who cannot attend only can observe via Zoom or FaceTime. For others who have not married yet, planning the ceremony or celebration can be worrisome, especially for those looking for a memorable venue.

As a whole, the Eagles have done so much to help during the Coronavirus pandemic. From individual players to special fundraisers, The Eagles recognize the severity of the virus and are deeply dedicated to doing the best they can to help the community that supports the team and franchise so passionately. Recently, the Eagles announced that they are offering the Linc for free ceremonies for frontline workers and couples who had wedding plans cancelled due to Covid-19!

Usually, site fees at the Line will cost you around $30,000, but for frontline workers like health care professionals, grocery store clerks, mail carriers, and other essential figures, this fee will be waived through March 31st, 2021 when you purchase a wedding package at the Linc. Weddings aren’t commonly held at the Linc due to limited availability as a result of entertainment events like Eagles games, concerts, etc. Different spots are available for celebrations, such as the Touchdown Club, Hyundai Club, and Tork Club, and the pricing for these clubs vary as well.

Though the disruption of wedding plans is disheartening, it is nice that the Eagles are once again coming through to help and put a smile on people’s faces!
