Will Smith to produce ‘Fresh Prince’ reboot
Now this is a story all about how… a mock Youtube trailer got noticed by Will Smith.
Morgan Cooper made a trailer with an idea to make the original 90’s sitcom into a modern-day drama. All of the original characters are in it with callbacks to the original.
Will is a troubled teen who gets in trouble in the streets of West Philadelphia and his mom decides to send him to Bel-Air, CA, to get his act together. With the drama aspects, the new series will dive deeper into what it means to be a Black man in America today.
Cooper is a superfan of the show and will serve as director, co-scriptwriter, and co-executive producer.
The trailer caught Smith’s attention last year and the drama has been in the works since. Right now, Smith and other executive producers are looking for a streaming platform to air it on. Currently, HBO Max holds the original series.
Reboots and sequels have become very popular over the years and we are sure with the original producers attached, this reboot will be a hit.
Smith was born and raised in Philadelphia and we love that he still remembers his roots.
