Darius Slay Picks No. 24 for Eagles Jersey, Honoring Kobe Bryant
It has been nearly two months since the tragic passing of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and eight others, including his daughter Gigi. Kobe’s death shocked the world, the NBA, and Philadelphia, a place that Kobe had very close ties with. Since Kobe’s death, many sports figures have been honoring his legacy through a number of different tributes. Recently, Darius Slay of the Eagles decided to remember Kobe in a very special way.
On Friday, Darius Slay was traded to the Eagles for a third and fifth round draft pick and signed a three-year contract for $50 million. Before the Eagles, Slay was a player for the Detroit Lions, and considered to be in the top five cornerbacks in the league, making him very appealing to the Eagles. When it came time to settle on a number, Slay picked No. 24 as a way to honor Kobe Bryant.
In an Instagram Live video, Slay said “I’m going with that 2-4 man. I’m going Kobe mode. Black Mamba. Rest in peace to the GOAT. One of my favorite players. I’ll look good in 24.”
The Eagles are making big changes for the upcoming 2020 season, and Jacob Klinger of Penn Live notes that the signing of Slay “is the most significant signing of the offseason to date.”
