A Taste of Post-Rock: This Will Destroy You Tours Philly
It’s easy to get lost in the music of noted post-rock group This Will Destroy You. Most of their songs are constructed in a manner that invites listeners to dive headfirst into the music, albeit gradually. Carefully layered instrumentation slowly builds to epic crescendos where multiple guitars, dosed with various effects, wash out the audience with overwhelming sound.
The structure would seem formulaic if not for the ambitious length and variety found throughout their discography. While songs may share thematic commonalities, such as the soundscape of an epic journey taking place, no two compositions are truly another alike.
The band released two full length albums last year although it’s just as well to lump the releases together into a double album. New Others Part One was released on September 28th, 2018 while its successor New Others Part Two arrived the the very following month. These two released bring the group’s album count to six in total since their first arrived in 2006.
Their music is entirely made up of atmospheric instrumentals. While you won’t find any sing alongs when they play live, you will observe undeniable feeling as a result of the musical force the group produces effortlessly. As production and tone go, This Will Destroy You are a polished unit that have these elements down pat. You can purchase tickets for This Will Destroy You’s performance at The World Cafe this Friday, November 15th here.
